God and Game Theory

A couple of weeks ago, a professional colleague of mine suggested I should check out something called “game theory.” It is, I have since learned, a mathematical theory and also, for psychologists and others, a way of analyzing social interactions. Stated briefly, it divides these interactions into what are called “zero-sum,” and “non-zero-sum.” In zero-sum exchanges, one person wins and the other person, or persons, loses. Non-zero-sum exchanges are similar to what I also have heard called “win-win scenarios,” and are an exchange in which both parties benefit from the interaction. Continue reading

A professor of mine once noted that the number of books written over the history of Christianity on the image of the Divine in the traditional sense of “Father” or “Creator” would fill whole rooms in a library. The number of books dedicated to the life story and divinity of Jesus of Nazareth as God’s only Son would equal or exceed that number.
